Thesis
at St. John's University
Overview
Students who are interested in working on a thesis project during their last semester must submit a Thesis Form along with a Thesis/Project Proposal. Each student must also secure a faculty member willing to act as the student’s Thesis Advisor. The Thesis Advisor should review the Project Proposal and sign the Thesis Form before this is submitted to the Chairperson of the Department of Art and Design for final approval and enrollment in Art 4125 - Creative Thesis.
The thesis candidates will meet regularly with their Thesis Advisors for advice and feedback throughout the semester. In addition to these individual meetings with their faculty advisor, all students enrolled in Creative Thesis must participate in the Thesis Class meetings which are scheduled once a week. The class is designed to facilitate development and progress of thesis work, ensure ongoing reviews and critiques, and fulfill all thesis and exhibition requirements. The Thesis Class Leader will be a faculty member other than the students’ individual advisors.
The thesis project culminates in an exhibition and as such, thesis candidates are required to adhere to a strict guidelines and schedule provided in the Thesis Class and by the gallery hosting the exhibition. Guidelines for the initial proposal are outlined below.
